GAITHERSBURG, M.D. — A Kensington man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a Sykesville resident, Montgomery County police announced Tuesday.

Benjamin Jack Dresbach, 21, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder following the death of 29-year-old Trevor Dean Van Devander on Monday, January 13.

Officers from the 2nd District responded to reports of a shooting around 5:40 p.m. on the 3900 block of Franklin Street in Kensington. Van Devander was found with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that Dresbach and Van Devander were inside Dresbach’s residence when an argument escalated into the fatal shooting.

Dresbach was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is being held without bond.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to determine the official cause of death.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather details surrounding the incident.
