NEWARK, N.J. — A Bergen County man was sentenced to 72 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute heroin, Acting U.S. Attorney Vikas Khanna announced Wednesday.

Dawan A. Brown, 37, of Cliffside Park, pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin. U.S. District Judge Brian R. Martinotti imposed the sentence in Newark federal court.

According to court documents and statements, law enforcement began investigating Brown’s drug trafficking operations in January 2022. Investigators discovered Brown, also known as “DB,” was distributing large quantities of heroin from an apartment in Harrison, New Jersey.

On June 14, 2022, officers executed search warrants at the Harrison apartment and Brown’s Cliffside Park residence. Authorities recovered approximately two kilograms of narcotics suspected to contain heroin and fentanyl, drug packaging materials, and $34,000 in cash from the Harrison apartment. An additional $169,000 in cash, luxury jewelry, and $225,000 from safety deposit boxes were seized from Brown’s residence.

As part of his plea deal, Brown agreed to forfeit $436,615.95 in drug trafficking proceeds.

In addition to his prison term, Brown was sentenced to four years of supervised release.
