WASHINGTON, DC — A brazen package theft in Northwest Washington has left neighbors on high alert after surveillance footage captured a woman, disguised as an Amazon delivery driver, stealing multiple packages from a Cleveland Park apartment building.
The theft occurred Friday afternoon, just before 3 p.m., at the Cleveland Park Cooperative on Connecticut Avenue. The video shows an Amazon driver entering the building to deliver packages, followed moments later by a second woman wearing an Amazon jacket and holding two packages.
The suspect lingered inside, pretending to use her phone as the driver questioned her. After the driver left, the woman opened the door for an accomplice, and together they took approximately 10 packages, including a $200 snowblower meant for the building.
Neighbors, who have dealt with package thefts in the past, said this incident stood out due to the use of an Amazon uniform to carry out the crime. Residents are now urging others to be cautious with deliveries and consider requiring signatures to safeguard against theft.
The stolen items were replaced by Amazon, but some residents feel the company should take more responsibility for delivery security.
