JOPPA, Md. — A retired maritime employee from Harford County ended 2024 on a high note, claiming a $1,000-a-week-for-life prize from the Cash4Life lottery game after purchasing a quick-pick ticket for the New Year’s Eve drawing.
The winning ticket, purchased at Edgewood Liquors, Grocery & Deli on Philadelphia Road, matched five numbers but missed the Cash Ball by one digit. The player chose a three instead of a two, narrowly missing the game’s top prize of $1,000 a day for life.
Opting for the $1 million lump sum payment instead of lifetime annuity installments, the 28-year maritime industry veteran said he would have chosen the weekly payments if he were younger. He plans to use his prize money to pay off his home mortgage and secure his financial future.
The winner, an avid fan of lottery games like Mega Millions and Powerball, shared that he enjoys spending time with his family and attending car shows when not testing his luck with scratch-offs and draw games.
Edgewood Liquors, the store where the ticket was purchased, will receive a $2,500 bonus for selling the second-tier winning ticket. This marks one of just 11 second-tier Cash4Life prizes won in Maryland since 2016.
