Middle River man wins $50K on scratch-off gifted by brother

MIDDLE RIVER, MD — A thoughtful Christmas gift from one brother to another has turned into a $50,000 windfall for a Middle River man facing mounting medical bills.

The winning ticket, a $5 Cash to Go scratch-off, was gifted over the holidays and ended up revealing one of the game’s top prizes. The fortunate winner described the prize as “a real godsend,” explaining that it will go toward paying off significant healthcare expenses after years of financial hardship.

The winner, a longtime Lottery player, typically opts for occasional $1 or $2 scratch-offs as a light diversion. He recounted his disbelief after uncovering the $50,000 prize on just the fourth number of the 15-number ticket. “I had to do a double take,” he said after realizing his luck.

The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven located at 11500 Pocomoke Court in Middle River. The store will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket. According to Lottery officials, five more $50,000 top prizes remain in the Cash to Go game, along with multiple $5,000 and $1,000 prizes.
