WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 64-year-old man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while walking his bicycle across the roadway in Southeast on Wednesday evening.
The crash occurred at approximately 8:59 p.m. in the 4400 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast. According to the initial investigation, the man, identified as Michael McCorkle of Southeast, was crossing westbound when an unknown vehicle hit him and fled the scene.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but McCorkle succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts.
Surveillance cameras in the area captured the striking vehicle, and police have released the footage in hopes of identifying the driver. The video can be viewed on the department’s official YouTube channel.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact the police at (202) 727-9099 or anonymously via text at 50411. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
