FREDERICK, Md. – Maryland State Police arrested a Montgomery Village man early Friday in connection with a highway shooting in Frederick County.
Gerome Alexander Quigley Jr., 41, is facing two counts each of first- and second-degree attempted murder, use of a prohibited high-capacity magazine in the commission of a felony, and multiple firearm-related charges. He is being held at the Frederick County Central Booking, awaiting a court hearing.
The victims, who were not injured, reported being followed and shot at by Quigley while driving a red GMC Yukon on westbound Route 340 near Jefferson around 2:30 a.m.
Troopers located Quigley’s gray Volkswagen stuck in a snowbank on the highway median. Officers arrested Quigley at the scene and noted signs of impairment.
Investigators believe the shooting followed an earlier encounter between Quigley and the victims at Country Hills Apartments in Frederick. Quigley allegedly opened fire on the victims’ vehicle at the intersection of Ballenger Creek Pike and Ballenger Center Drive and continued shooting as he pursued them.
Police recovered multiple bullet holes on the victims’ SUV, including a shattered driver’s window and two bullets inside the vehicle. A loaded 9mm handgun and shell casings were also found near Quigley’s car.
