OXON HILL, Md. – What’s often considered the unluckiest day of the year turned out to be life-changing for an Oxon Hill man who won $100,000 playing the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game on Friday, December 13.

Clarence, a retired federal employee who requested only his first name be used, said he played the numbers 50403 on a $1 straight bet for both the midday and evening drawings, purchasing two separate tickets at Modern Liquors in Temple Hills.

Later that night, Clarence discovered that both tickets matched the midday winning numbers, earning him $50,000 on each ticket. “I just started hollering,” Clarence said. “I knew what I saw, but I still didn’t believe it.”

Clarence confirmed his $100,000 total win by scanning his tickets and collected an additional $1,200 from Box bets he also placed. He plans to use the winnings to pay bills and fund a birthday trip next month.

Modern Liquors, where Clarence bought the winning tickets, will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the two $50,000-winning tickets.

A day known for bad luck delivered an unforgettable win for this lucky Maryland man.
