FREDERICK, MD — A Frederick County couple is celebrating a $30,000 top-prize win on the Maryland Lottery’s Peppermint Payout scratch-off game, their first major victory after years of playing.
The winning $3 instant ticket was purchased at the Food Lion store in the Orchard Village shopping center on Tippin Drive in Thurmont during a recent grocery trip. After scratching the ticket at home, the husband and wife were stunned to uncover the game’s $30,000 top prize.
“We had to look at it about three times,” the husband said as the couple claimed their prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The couple, whose previous biggest win was $1,000 two years ago, plans to use their prize money to buy a pickup truck. When asked if they’d keep playing, the husband enthusiastically replied, “Oh yeah! We’re going to hit it again, only for a little bit more, maybe $250,000!”
The Food Lion store will receive a $300 bonus for selling the top-prize-winning ticket. The Peppermint Payout game still has four $30,000 top prizes remaining, along with more than 400,000 other prizes ranging from $3 to $500.
