PORTLAND, Maine — A Westbrook man was sentenced Wednesday to five years and four months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a felon, U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. announced. Corey Faulkner, 39, will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.
The sentencing stems from an October 2023 incident in which Westbrook Police responded to Faulkner’s residence after a 911 call reporting domestic violence. According to court records, the victim reported being assaulted and strangled by Faulkner, who was also alleged to have made suicidal statements. The victim told officers that Faulkner possessed firearms in the residence.
Law enforcement established a perimeter around the building, issued a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents, and obtained a state arrest warrant. After an eight-hour standoff, officers breached the basement with unmanned drones and a robot, locating Faulkner in a bathroom. Faulkner surrendered after the bathroom window was breached.
A search of the residence uncovered a 12-gauge shotgun, 12-gauge ammunition, a 9mm pistol case, and 9mm ammunition. A second search later revealed a 9mm pistol hidden in a kitchen cabinet. Faulkner was prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions, including a 2013 domestic violence assault and a 2018 aggravated assault involving the attempted use of fire as a weapon.
The case was investigated by the Westbrook Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
