BETHLEHEM TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A fatal single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on William Penn Highway has left one person dead and another injured, police announced.
At approximately 2:07 a.m., a Bethlehem Township police officer on patrol came upon a blue Nissan Altima that had collided with two trees near Chipman Road. Emergency crews worked to extricate the vehicle’s occupants, but the passenger, a female from Easton, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 31-year-old male, also from Easton, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The identity of the deceased passenger is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and release by the Northampton County Coroner’s Office.
Police determined that the Nissan was traveling eastbound on William Penn Highway when it left the roadway, crossed into the opposing lane, and struck two trees on the north side of the highway. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours as officers conducted an investigation into the crash.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or observed the vehicle before the collision to contact Cpl. Lindsay at 610-814-6411.
