MINEOLA, N.Y. — Amandeep Singh, 36, of Roslyn, pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated vehicular homicide and multiple related charges for a May 2023 wrong-way crash that killed 14-year-olds Ethan Falkowitz and Drew Hassenbein and injured two other teens in Jericho, Nassau County prosecutors announced.
The crash occurred on May 3, 2023, when Singh, intoxicated and under the influence of cocaine, drove his 2021 Dodge Ram TRX at 95 mph in the wrong direction on North Broadway. He collided head-on with an Alfa Romeo carrying four teenagers who were returning home from celebrating a high school tennis match victory.
An analysis of Singh’s vehicle revealed he was traveling 75 mph in a 40-mph zone at the moment of impact. The collision instantly killed Hassenbein and Falkowitz, who were seated on the right side of the vehicle. The two other teens suffered injuries, including a concussion, leg injuries, and glass shards that required removal from one victim’s eye.
After the crash, Singh fled the scene and was found hiding near a dumpster in a nearby shopping center parking lot. A blood test conducted under a search warrant revealed Singh’s blood alcohol level was .15%, nearly twice the legal limit, four hours after the crash. Cocaine was also detected in his system.
Singh, who faces 8⅓ to 25 years in prison, is scheduled for sentencing on Feb. 7, 2025. Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly stated, “The evidence of this defendant’s guilt was overwhelming and left him with no choice but to finally take responsibility today for the lives he destroyed.”
