SILVER SPRING, Md. — Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police are investigating the theft of a 2013 Hyundai Elantra from the parking garage at Wheaton Mall and are asking for the public’s help in identifying two suspects captured in surveillance images.


The vehicle, a red Hyundai Elantra, was stolen on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from the 11600 block of Veirs Mill Road. Police say the suspects broke the driver’s door handle to gain access before driving away. The stolen car was later recovered in Washington, D.C., in the 1900 block of Independence Avenue SE.
Surveillance footage provided detailed descriptions of the suspects:
- Suspect one: A Black male, late teens, approximately 5’8” with a medium build. He was wearing gray sweatpants, white socks with white slip-on sandals, a black winter jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt, and carrying a black Under Armour backpack.
- Suspect two: A Black female, late teens, approximately 5’7” with a medium build and long hair. She was wearing multi-colored pajama bottoms, gray fuzzy boots, a black sweatshirt with “America” on the sleeves, and carrying a Kuchen & Bag.1980 cross-body bag.
