OWINGS MILLS, Md. — A retired construction supervisor from Baltimore County is celebrating a $50,000 Maryland Lottery Pick 5 win, calling the unexpected prize “a blessing” for his family.
The Owings Mills resident purchased the winning $1 straight ticket on Dec. 23 while running errands. A spur-of-the-moment decision led him to stop at One Stop Liquors & Wine in Reisterstown, where he selected numbers that he said “just felt right.”
“I get a ticket when I think about it,” the winner told lottery officials. “I saw the store and turned right in.”
The big win came during the Dec. 28 midday drawing, one of 10 drawings for which he had purchased tickets. The following day, he checked the results and discovered he had hit the game’s top prize. “I could not believe it at first. Could not believe that it had happened to me,” he said.
The winner plans to use the funds to assist family members with medical expenses, describing the prize as a “blessing” and expressing deep gratitude. The store that sold the winning ticket will also receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
