BETHESDA, Md. — A Montgomery County police officer is receiving medical treatment after an extended incident that temporarily closed Potomac Tennis Lane near Falls Road on Monday evening.

The situation began on Sunday, December 29, when the officer’s supervisor observed concerning behavior during their shift and raised alarms about their welfare. The officer was later located in their patrol car near Falls Road and Potomac Tennis Lane, prompting a coordinated response from law enforcement and support services.

Over the course of 15 hours, police and crisis intervention teams worked to de-escalate the situation and ensure the officer’s safety. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue and the Department of Health and Human Services were also involved in the effort, which concluded peacefully around 6:09 p.m. on December 30.

Following the resolution, the officer was transported to a local hospital to receive medical care. Officials have not disclosed further details about the officer’s condition but emphasized their commitment to addressing mental health concerns among personnel.

The prolonged incident led to the closure of Potomac Tennis Lane at Falls Road for several hours, and police expressed gratitude to the community for their patience during the disruption.
