Mother charged after infant found abandoned in tote bag in Bronx

BRONX, NY — A 26-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the abandonment of an infant in the Bronx early Sunday morning, authorities said.

Police identified the woman as Delfina Galvez of 1038 Rev James A Polite Avenue. She faces charges of reckless endangerment in the first degree, abandonment of a child, and acting in a manner injurious to a child.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 6:05 a.m. Sunday, when an unidentified female infant was found wrapped in blankets and placed inside a tote bag. The baby was left in front of a residence located at 1102 Rev James A Polite Avenue.

Emergency Medical Services transported the infant to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where she was reported to be in stable condition. Hospital staff continues to care for the child as the investigation unfolds.

The NYPD is requesting assistance from the public to determine additional details about the case, urging anyone with information to come forward.
