TOMS RIVER, NJ — Chaudhry Yousaf, 52, a fugitive wanted in connection with a fatal motor vehicle crash on the Garden State Parkway in 2009, was taken into custody last week at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, authorities said.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that Yousaf, whose last known address was in Valley Stream, New York, was arrested on December 24, 2024, by the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. Yousaf was extradited to New Jersey on December 27 and is now being held at the Ocean County Jail.
The crash occurred on March 28, 2009, near milepost 77 on the Garden State Parkway. Investigators determined Yousaf was intoxicated while driving a black Lincoln Town Car southbound when he lost control, struck a roadway sign, and veered into the woods, hitting a tree. The crash killed passenger Harris Kahn, 26, of Queens, New York, who died the following day from his injuries.
Yousaf was charged with vehicular homicide and arrested shortly after the crash but posted bail and fled in 2010, failing to appear for a mandatory court date. A bench warrant was issued, and he remained a fugitive for nearly 14 years.
Prosecutor Billhimer credited the collaborative efforts of multiple agencies, including the New Jersey State Police and U.S. Marshals Service, for Yousaf’s apprehension.
