ESSEX, Md. — A Baltimore County retiree struck it big this week, claiming the $100,000 top prize on the Maryland Lottery’s $100,000 Crossword scratch-off game.

The Essex resident purchased the $10 ticket at a Weis Market on Oriville Road after using leftover grocery money to try her luck at a Lottery kiosk. She said the ticket “called her name” as she made her selection.

After scratching the ticket at home, the woman matched 10 words, securing the game’s largest prize. She shared the news with family and friends but has no immediate plans for her winnings, stating she intends to enjoy her retirement as the excitement settles in.

The store that sold the ticket will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning game.

Weis Market joins the list of Maryland Lottery retailers celebrating big-ticket winners this year.
