UTICA, N.Y. — Police arrested a 51-year-old Ilion man Thursday morning after responding to a burglary in progress on the 200 block of Genesee Street, according to the Utica Police Department.
Officers arrived at the scene around 6:30 a.m., where they met with the victim who reported that an unknown person had broken into the property and stolen items. Surveillance footage reviewed on-site provided a description of the suspect, police said.
While canvassing the area, officers located a man a few blocks away who matched the description. The individual was pushing a shopping cart that contained the stolen property, authorities reported.
Police identified the suspect as Andrew Furman, 51, of Ilion. He was taken into custody and transported to the Utica Police Department for further investigation.
Furman was subsequently charged with burglary in the third degree and petit larceny, police said.
The suspect was apprehended just blocks from the scene, authorities confirmed.
