Manchester opens high school as warming station for residents affected by power outages tonight

MANCHESTER, N.J. — With a power outage continuing to affect the area, Manchester Police have announced that Manchester Township High School is now the only available warming center for residents seeking refuge from the cold.

Located at 101 Hawks Way, the high school has been designated as the central hub for those in need of warmth and shelter. The facility is pet-friendly, ensuring that residents can bring their animals along while they wait for power to be restored.

“We’re asking anyone who requires transportation to the warming center to contact us at 732-657-6111 to make arrangements,” police stated in an update shared via Facebook and Twitter on Monday afternoon.

Officials have announced that the Manchester EMS Substation on Lacey Road has reached full capacity as residents continue to seek shelter amid a prolonged power outage affecting the area.

As of Monday evening, the Whiting Fire Company, located at 120 Lacey Road, is now serving as the primary warming station for residents in need of relief from the cold.

“If you need transportation to the warming station, please contact us at 732-657-6111 to make arrangements,” officials advised in a statement.

The outage, which has left residents without power during cold temperatures, has increased demand for warming facilities across the township.

Officials are working to restore power but urge residents to use the Whiting Fire Company for shelter until further updates are provided.

The outage, which began earlier this week, has left residents across Manchester grappling with frigid temperatures. The high school’s designation as the sole warming station follows the closure of other temporary shelters in the area.

Authorities have not yet provided a timeline for when power will be restored but urge residents to take precautions and utilize the available resources.
