Largest Methamphetamine Seizure Recorded in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach, VA – A joint investigation on Thursday involving the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD), Chesapeake Police Department (CPD), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) resulted in the substantial seizure of 156 pounds of methamphetamine. This operation stands as the largest single methamphetamine seizure in the department’s history and strikes a significant blow to meth distribution networks in the Hampton Roads area.

VBPD officers, with collaboration from HSI agents, approached Alonzo Harden Jr., aged 54, from St. Paul, Minnesota, at the 4400 block of Bonney Road on Thursday. The approach occurred during an ongoing drug trafficking investigation in the area. Using Narcotics Detection Canine Luna, officers conducted a sniff around Harden’s vehicle, resulting in the discovery of illegal narcotics.

The search unveiled two large bags containing approximately 156 pounds of methamphetamine in the trunk. The drugs hold an estimated street value of $350,000.

Alonzo Harden Jr. was arrested and faces several charges, including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance, and possession of a firearm while in possession of such a substance.
