EAST ISLIP, N.Y. — A young deer was safely rescued Friday morning by officers from the Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau after it was found struggling in a canal at The Moorings, a private community in East Islip.
The department received a 911 call about the trapped animal at approximately 9:10 a.m. and dispatched Marine Juliet to the scene. Officers Jack Jantzen and John Dreyer, aboard the boat operated by Officer Robert Jenkins, located the fawn swimming in the canal.

Using a boat line, the officers secured the deer and guided it to a nearby floating jet ski platform. From there, the animal was safely pulled from the water and brought to shore.
Police confirmed that the fawn was uninjured during the rescue and was returned to land without incident. The quick action by the Marine Bureau ensured the animal’s safety and prevented a potentially tragic outcome.
