Two Philadelphia corrections officers arrested for jailhouse contraband smuggling operation

PHILADELPHIA – Two corrections officers at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility (CFCF) were arrested on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in separate contraband smuggling operations that generated thousands of dollars in illegal proceeds. The arrests, announced by District Attorney Larry Krasner and members of the Gun Violence Task Force, follow a multi-agency investigation into illegal activity at the facility.

Roderick Price, 41, and Christina Ingram, 23, were taken into custody after investigations revealed their roles in smuggling cell phones and Suboxone, a medication used to treat opioid addiction, into CFCF. Price, employed as a corrections officer since 2006, was arrested at his residence, while Ingram, who began working for the Philadelphia Department of Prisons in 2023, was detained at the facility. Authorities said the two did not collaborate and operated separate schemes with outside accomplices.

Both defendants face charges that include corrupt organization, criminal conspiracy, dealing in illegal proceeds, contraband violations, and possession with intent to deliver. Investigators allege their actions fueled a contraband market inside the prison, compromising the safety of staff and inmates.

“These two corrections officers will be held accountable for violating their oaths and for helping fuel a market for narcotics and other contraband within CFCF,” said District Attorney Krasner. “My office always strives to pursue equal justice, regardless of whether or not the defendant wears a badge.”

Philadelphia Department of Prisons Commissioner Michael Resnick condemned the alleged misconduct, emphasizing its impact on facility security. “Introducing contraband undermines the security and integrity of our facilities and threatens the safety of all of our staff and the inmate population,” Resnick said in a statement.

The arrests were the result of collaboration between the Gun Violence Task Force, the Philadelphia Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Pennsylvania State Police. Investigations into the broader contraband network connected to the facility are ongoing.
