Holiday cheer arrives early for Charles County mom with $50K lottery win

CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. — A Southern Maryland mother is celebrating a $50,000 top-prize win after hitting the jackpot on the Maryland Lottery’s new Cash to Go scratch-off game.

The Charles County resident discovered her big win while scratching tickets at home, matching the winning number 7 to reveal the $50,000 prize. She said she had to double-check the ticket to confirm the win and was overcome with excitement when it turned out to be real.

The lucky winner, a government employee, plans to use her windfall to pay bills and make this holiday season extra special for her family. Her daughter is especially thrilled about the win, which will bring more holiday gifts this year.

The winning $5 ticket was purchased at Atrium Wine and Spirits on 37680 Mohawk Drive in Charlotte Hall. The retailer will also receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize ticket.

The Cash to Go game, launched on December 2, still has six top prizes of $50,000 remaining, along with smaller prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000.
