MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has confirmed a drone sighting over his home in Mendham, adding a new layer of intrigue to the wave of unexplained drone activity across the state. The incident, which Christie disclosed during a recent interview, follows weeks of public speculation and federal investigations into similar sightings near critical infrastructure throughout New Jersey.
The statement comes days after President Donald Trump mocked the former governor’s battle with obesity, saying the drones were delivering McDonald’s to his political nemesis.

The sighting comes just days after a viral online meme depicted Christie receiving McDonald’s food delivered by drone, a satirical jab referencing his past political rivalry with Donald Trump. While Christie dismissed the meme, the timing of his personal experience with a drone has further fueled discussions about the motivations behind these aerial appearances.
“If you don’t fill that vacuum, all the conspiracy theories get filled in there,” Christie said, referencing the public uncertainty. He pointed specifically to Congressman Jeff Van Drew’s previous claim that an Iranian mothership was off the New Jersey coast, a statement Christie called “provably not true.” He urged federal and state officials to provide more transparency and address the public’s growing concerns.
Christie also noted how drone sightings are unsettling to residents given their association with military uses, such as in Ukraine. “It’s a newish technology to most people, and they’re worried about it. They hear about drones being deployed as weapons, so you can see why people are concerned,” he said.
Calling for decisive action, Christie advocated for state police to be given authority to take down rogue drones and investigate their purpose. “What we’re going to find is individuals acting as drone vigilantes, and they’re going to start taking them down. That’s not what we want,” he warned, emphasizing the legitimate uses of drones in commerce and law enforcement.

Christie’s sighting adds to the growing tension surrounding these mysterious flights, highlighting the need for clearer answers as speculation continues to dominate public discourse.
“I’d want our state police to be able to have the authority to bring those drones down and find out why they’re doing what they’re doing,” he added.
