OKLAHOMA CITY — Kim Weinrich, 67, of Mustang, Oklahoma, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to wire fraud and filing a false tax return, admitting to embezzling over $471,000 from Mustang Public Schools over a six-year period. The plea was announced by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester and stems from charges filed earlier this month.
According to court documents, Weinrich worked for the district from 2014 to April 2022, rising to the position of Director of Payroll Services in 2021. Beginning in July 2016, Weinrich manipulated the district’s payroll software to increase her own pay during each pay period, diverting the stolen funds into her personal bank account. The scheme also caused other employees’ federal and state tax withholdings to be underreported, reducing their tax refunds.
Weinrich’s fraud went further, prosecutors say. She altered payroll records to make it appear that she paid substantial federal income taxes, even though no taxes were withheld. In April 2022, she filed a federal tax return falsely claiming an income of $91,295, despite knowing her actual income, inflated by the stolen funds, was significantly higher.
Between July 2016 and April 2022, Weinrich defrauded Mustang Public Schools out of $471,657.91. She pleaded guilty to all charges on December 12, 2024, admitting to her role in the scheme and to filing a false tax return.
Weinrich faces a maximum sentence of 23 years in federal prison, along with fines of up to $350,000. The case was investigated by IRS Criminal Investigation and the United States Secret Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Brown.
Weinrich’s sentencing date has not yet been set.
