GREENSBURG, Pa. — A Westmoreland County judge has sentenced a New Kensington man to serve five to 10 years in prison after his October conviction on charges of kidnapping and robbery, authorities said.

Steven Best, 41, was sentenced on Thursday by Common Pleas Judge Scott Mears, according to Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli. The charges stem from a 2022 incident in which a woman was held against her will in the basement of Best’s home after the two met online.

During the trial, the victim testified that she endured hours of captivity and was only able to escape by convincing Best that she loved him and would continue seeing him if he let her go. The jury found Best guilty of kidnapping and robbery but acquitted him of simple assault.

Best has been incarcerated since June and will now begin serving his state prison sentence.

The case concludes with a sentence aimed at addressing the severity of the crimes committed.
