CUMBERLAND, Md. — An 18-year-old LaVale resident has been charged in connection with a violent altercation during a house party on Fayette Street in the early hours of December 8, police said.

Officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 700 block of Fayette Street at 1:36 a.m. after receiving a report of a man with a weapon. Witnesses told officers that a male suspect struck an 18-year-old man in the head with a handgun and stabbed a 21-year-old woman with a knife during a dispute.

The injuries sustained by both victims were minor, and neither sought medical treatment at the scene. The suspect fled the residence before police arrived, authorities said.

An investigation conducted by the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit led to the recovery of evidence, including the weapons allegedly used in the attack. Detectives also conducted several interviews and executed search warrants as part of the case.

Jazavier Maleik Wigger, 18, was arrested by Maryland State Police at a business in LaVale. He faces multiple charges, including felony assault, use of a firearm in a crime of violence, and disorderly conduct. Wigger, initially held without bond, has since been released pending trial.
