Shooting on Fairview Avenue leaves one man dead as investigators work to uncover answers

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 34-year-old Elizabeth man late Sunday night on Fairview Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced Monday.

The Jersey City Police Department responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 11:20 p.m. on December 8 in the area between John F. Kennedy Boulevard and West Side Avenue. Officers arrived to find Dushawn Bell with gunshot wounds.

Bell was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:40 a.m. on December 9. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine the cause and manner of death.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, in collaboration with the Jersey City Police Department, is leading the investigation. No arrests have been announced, and authorities have not released additional details about potential suspects or a motive.
