BROOKLYN PARK, MD — A construction worker from Pasadena struck it big during his lunch break, winning $50,000 on the Maryland Lottery’s new $10 Mega Bucks scratch-off ticket, officials announced Thursday.
The man, who visited Discount Cigarettes on Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park with two coworkers, decided to try his luck with the Mega Bucks ticket, which had just gone on sale December 2. While scratching the colorful game, he revealed a $100 bonus prize at the top of the ticket.
Encouraged by his initial win, he continued scratching and scanned the ticket’s bottom section, uncovering a $50,000 second-tier prize. “My friends thought I was joking,” the winner said. He shared his excitement with the store owner, who verified the win and joined in celebrating the lucky moment.
The father of three says he plans to use the winnings to support family activities and bolster their savings. This marks his largest lottery win to date, topping a $10,000 prize he won several years ago.
The $10 Mega Bucks ticket still has all nine $100,000 top prizes available, as well as nine more $50,000 second-tier prizes and numerous smaller prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
