Boston man arrested after road rage incident involving gunfire in South End

BOSTON — A 40-year-old man was arrested late Friday night after allegedly firing a gun during a road rage incident in the South End, Boston Police reported.

Officers from District D-4 responded to reports of shots fired near 145 East Berkeley Street at approximately 10:37 p.m. Police were informed that an argument stemming from a road rage incident escalated when the suspect fired a shot at the victim’s vehicle.

Officers located two vehicles stopped at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and East Berkeley Street and detained the driver of the suspect’s vehicle, identified as Jair Furtado of Boston.

Inside the vehicle, police observed a Springfield Hellcat firearm loaded with one round in the chamber and eight rounds in the magazine. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a box of ammunition and a holster.

Furtado was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
