UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — A jury has found Troy Medley, 39, guilty of second-degree murder in the March 2023 shooting death of 62-year-old Lidia Chinchilla DeCarrillo, a grandmother visiting Prince George’s County from El Salvador to attend her grandson’s funeral.

DeCarrillo was sitting in a car with her granddaughter outside a relative’s home on Drumm Avenue in Capitol Heights when Medley approached in a separate vehicle and fired five shots into the car, striking DeCarrillo in the back. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The prosecution presented a combination of witness testimony, video footage, photographs, and scientific evidence to secure the conviction. Medley was also found guilty of first-degree assault, use of a handgun in a crime of violence, and possession of a handgun by a prohibited person.

Medley will be sentenced in the coming months, with the exact date yet to be determined.
