Staten Island man shot and killed in the Bronx, gunman at large

BRONX, N.Y. — A Staten Island man died Thursday after being shot in the head in a Bronx neighborhood, police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call reporting an assault at 688 East 223rd Street at approximately 3:34 p.m. Upon arrival, they found 36-year-old Melquan Johnson, of Highland Avenue on Staten Island, with a gunshot wound to his head.

Emergency medical personnel transported Johnson to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made, and the NYPD’s investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

This marks another case of gun violence in the Bronx, with detectives continuing their search for suspects.
