TOMS RIVER, NJ – For the first time in recent memory, a nativity scene symbolizing the birth of Jesus Christ, including Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the angels, and maji, will stand in front of Toms River Township town hall. Mayor Dan Rodrick said this year’s Christmas tree lighting and celebration will again focus on Christmas’s true meaning.
When asked about potential conflicts with the forces behind the “Happy Holidays” movement, Rodrick said he’s not worried about that.
“We’re not afraid,” Mayor Rodrick said. “Forces have been trying to condition us to believe in things like Happy Holidays, but this is a Christmas celebration, and we’re going to celebrate a traditional Christmas and return to the true meaning of Christmas this year in Toms River.”
Today, the township unveiled the nativity scene in front of town hall ahead of tonight’s festivities which start at 5 pm outside of town hall.
Each year Toms River also hosts a menorah lighting during Hannukah.
