HOWELL, N.J. – Authorities are investigating a vehicle collision that critically injured a 45-year-old pedestrian Tuesday evening on US Route 9 in Howell Township, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Thursday.
Police responded to the intersection of US Route 9 and Lanes Mill Road at approximately 5:17 p.m. following reports of a pedestrian being struck. A preliminary investigation revealed that a female driver traveling northbound in the left lane of Route 9 collided with the pedestrian near the intersection.
The pedestrian, a Lakewood resident, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver remained at the scene following the collision, according to officials.
The investigation, conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Howell Township Police Department, is ongoing. Authorities have not disclosed additional details about the circumstances of the crash.
