NANUET, N.Y. — A 44-year-old man from Albany was killed Thursday afternoon in a tragic accident involving a food truck on Prospect Street in Nanuet, according to the Clarkstown Police Department.
The incident occurred around 3:05 p.m. when the driver of a 1994 Grumman food truck, identified as Khurram Shahzad, experienced a mechanical issue that caused the truck to stall. After parking the truck, Shahzad exited the vehicle and asked a friend who had been following him in another car to help maneuver the truck onto a side street.
The friend entered the truck, placed it into neutral, and attempted to back it up. During the process, the truck’s brakes reportedly failed, causing the vehicle to roll backward and strike Shahzad, who had positioned himself behind it to assist.
Emergency responders, including the Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps and Rockland Paramedics, arrived quickly to provide aid. Shahzad was transported to Montefiore Nyack Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Clarkstown Police Department is continuing to investigate the accident.
