DISTRICT HEIGHTS, MD — A 19-year-old Hyattsville man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Khamya Ferrell, who died after being struck by a stray bullet during a triple shooting in May.
Prince George’s County Police announced that Chance Waters has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and related offenses for his role in the incident, which occurred on May 31 in the 6600 block of Atwood Street. Ferrell, of Suitland, succumbed to her injuries on June 5, while two adult victims, one male and one female, survived.
Police say the shooting stemmed from an ongoing feud between Waters and three other unidentified suspects and a group of individuals they were targeting. Investigators believe Ferrell, who was inside an apartment at the time, was not the intended target.
Officers from the District Heights Police Department and the Prince George’s County Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 1:50 p.m., where they found the three victims. Ferrell and the female victim were inside the apartment, while the male victim was located outside.
Waters is currently in custody at the Department of Corrections as police continue to work to identify and arrest the three remaining suspects involved in the shooting.
