Bel Air, Md. — A retired Bel Air man who enjoys Maryland Lottery scratch-off tickets at the end of each year has hit his biggest win yet, claiming a $50,000 prize on Dec. 2.
The Harford County player, who previously won amounts in the $500 to $800 range, purchased the lucky ticket for the 20X The Cash game at the Exxon station on MacPhail Road. The winning ticket was the first one in the batch he bought.
“I kept looking at it, and looking at it, looking at it,” he said, recalling the moment he realized he had won. After confirming the win with the store clerk, who urged him to secure the ticket, he locked it up at home and told only his adult son about the windfall.
The player says the prize will go directly into his savings to help with any unexpected expenses, but he plans to continue his lottery hobby. As of Dec. 2, he had another set of tickets worth under $100 ready to cash.
The MacPhail Road Exxon station, located at 600 West MacPhail Road, will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize-winning ticket. Only one $50,000 top prize remains unclaimed for the 20X The Cash game.
