Baltimore, MD — A retired teacher and his former student have scored a pair of 2025 Ravens season tickets through the Maryland Lottery’s Ravens Second-Chance Promotion, reconnecting decades after sharing a middle school classroom.
John Kirby, a construction worker from Brooklyn Park, and Alex Wroblewski, a retired teacher from Baltimore, were announced as winners on October 15. While reviewing the winner list, John immediately recognized Alex as his former teacher from Francis Scott Key Middle School, where he was a sixth-grade student in the early 2000s.
The lottery prize includes two upper-level season tickets for the 2025 Ravens season, a parking pass for each game, and $250 in Ravens Bucks, which can be used for food and merchandise at the stadium. The two winners reunited at Maryland Lottery headquarters, reminiscing about their classroom days.
John described Alex as “strict” but effective, while Alex reflected on his teaching career, expressing pride in seeing former students succeed. He shared fond memories of motivating students with math problems and prizes, such as pie slices.
Both winners had entered the second-chance promotion by submitting non-winning Ravens scratch-offs into their My Lottery Rewards accounts. Alex, who retired in 2010, said he entered multiple promotions and was shocked when he learned he had won.
