EDISON, NJ — Authorities are investigating a serious crash in Edison that left two people critically injured and resulted in DUI and assault charges against one of the drivers involved.
The crash occurred early Thursday at approximately 1:32 a.m. at the intersection of Route 1 North and Parsonage Road. Responding officers found two vehicles at the scene, one carrying Diego Mejia, 39, of Edison, his wife, Jessica Naranjo, 35, of Woodbridge, and Mejia’s 15-year-old daughter. Mejia sustained serious but stable injuries, while both Naranjo and the teenager were critically injured and remain hospitalized in life-threatening condition.
The driver of the second vehicle, identified as Alyssa Figueredo, 31, of Cranford, suffered minor injuries and was transported to JFK Medical Center for treatment.
An investigation by the Edison Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Figueredo ran a red light and struck Mejia’s vehicle. Figueredo has been charged with three counts of third-degree assault by auto, driving under the influence, and other traffic violations.
