Two shootings leave one dead, another injured in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MD — Police in Baltimore are investigating two separate shootings on Sunday that left one man dead and another injured, as officers from the Northwest and Western Districts work to piece together the circumstances of the incidents.

In the first case, Northwest District officers were called to the 3600 block of Bowers Avenue around 9:29 a.m. to investigate reports of a possible shooting. Upon arrival, they found a 23-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the left thigh. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Police detained a person of interest at the scene and recovered a handgun. Detectives from the Northwest District have taken over the investigation.

Earlier in the morning, Western District officers were alerted by the city’s ShotSpotter system to gunfire in the 2200 block of North Monroe Street around 3:28 a.m. Shortly after, officers received a report of a shooting victim who had walked into a local hospital for treatment. When they arrived at the hospital, they found a 30-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, the victim was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police believe the shooting occurred on North Monroe Street before the victim was driven to the hospital. The Western District’s homicide unit is leading the investigation into the deadly incident.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about either case to contact the respective district detectives. Tipsters wishing to remain anonymous can call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP or submit a tip online.
