Suffolk County police join effort to support 500 veterans with Thanksgiving turkeys

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Hundreds of veterans in need were provided Thanksgiving meals and essential items this week, thanks to a collaborative effort between the Suffolk County Police Department and Nassau County Police Department.

Officers from both departments came together at the Veterans Stand Down event held earlier this week at the Freeport Armory, distributing turkeys, winter boots, pillows, and other necessities to more than 500 veterans.

“Some of our local veterans are going to be eating well today,” the Suffolk County Police Department wrote in a social media post on Thanksgiving, expressing gratitude to those who have served.

The Stand Down event is part of a larger initiative to support veterans in the community, particularly during the holiday season. Local police departments, veterans’ organizations, and community groups regularly join forces to ensure that veterans receive assistance and recognition for their sacrifices.

“To all veterans, Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you for your service!” Suffolk County Police added in their message.
