HACKENSACK, N.J. — A Hackensack man was arrested Monday in connection with an early morning robbery near Fair Street and Lodi Street, police said.
Hudhaifa Johnson, of Hackensack, was charged with robbery and multiple weapons offenses following an investigation by the Hackensack Police Department. The arrest stemmed from an incident reported at approximately 12:30 a.m. Monday, when a 24-year-old Monroe Township man told officers he was robbed of his jewelry and personal belongings by a suspect who implied he was armed.
The suspect fled the scene on a moped, and an initial search by officers yielded no results. Detective Matthew DeBonis was assigned to the case, and later that evening, at approximately 8 p.m., Patrol Officers Roselys Salas and Angelo Vicale apprehended Johnson on Essex Street. Police reported that Johnson was in possession of items believed to be proceeds from the robbery, as well as brass knuckles.
Johnson has been charged with first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and a prohibited persons weapons offense. He was transported to Bergen County Jail, where he is being held pending his initial court appearance.
“These charges are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt,” the department stated.
