WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 62-year-old woman was arrested Monday after allegedly stealing packages from the entrance of an apartment building in Northwest D.C., police said.

Officers responded to the 1600 block of Fuller Street Northwest after receiving a report of package theft. A short time later, police located the woman with the stolen packages in a shopping cart, according to authorities.

The suspect, identified as Maricia Tyson of Northwest, was taken into custody and charged with Theft Two, a misdemeanor under D.C. law.

The Metropolitan Police Department reminded residents of resources available to prevent package theft, including Amazon lockers located at all seven district stations and the Sixth District Substation. Residents were also encouraged to monitor deliveries, arrange for secure drop-off locations, or have packages delivered to work to reduce the likelihood of theft.
