VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to a fatal accident involving a bicyclist on Indian River Road shortly after 3:43 p.m. on November 14.
Investigators found that the bicyclist, identified as Colin Sutton, age 49, from Virginia Beach, exited the sidewalk and failed to yield to oncoming traffic. Sutton was hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the road.
Both Sutton and the vehicle’s driver were transported to a hospital. Sutton succumbed to his injuries, while the driver sustained minor injuries. No charges are expected in connection with the incident.
VBPD Chief Paul Neudigate extended condolences to Sutton’s loved ones and urged pedestrians and cyclists to adhere to traffic signals and use crosswalks. Authorities continue to investigate the crash and urge anyone with information to contact the VBPD Traffic Safety Unit or Crime Solvers.
