Schenectady police arrest Niskayuna man in overnight hit-and-run

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — A 29-year-old Niskayuna man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run early Wednesday morning that left a 41-year-old woman in critical condition, the Schenectady Police Department announced.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:18 a.m. at the intersection of Union Street and Nott Terrace. Police say the victim was struck by a vehicle while walking and found lying in the roadway upon their arrival. She was treated at the scene by the Schenectady Fire Department and transported to Albany Medical Center by Mohawk Ambulance, where she remains in critical condition.

The driver of the striking vehicle, identified as Richard I. Gordon, fled the scene before officers arrived. A joint investigation by the Schenectady Police Department’s Traffic Division, the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office, and the Niskayuna Police Department led to the identification of the vehicle, a 2024 Tesla registered to Gordon’s address in Niskayuna. Officers later made contact with Gordon, who was taken into custody.

Charges against Richard I. Gordon:

  • Leaving the scene of an incident involving personal injury (Class E Felony)
  • Speed not reasonable and prudent (VTL Infraction)
  • No distinctive plate/insecure/dirty (VTL Infraction)

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and have urged anyone with additional information to come forward.
