Newark police seek suspect in Columbia Street vehicle break-in

NEWARK, N J — Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect caught on surveillance footage breaking into a vehicle and stealing items, including an employee identification badge, on Columbia Street last week.

The incident occurred on November 18, 2024, at approximately 10 p.m., when the suspect smashed the front passenger window of a vehicle parked in the 40 block of Columbia Street, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr.

Surveillance video captured images of the individual, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be provided anonymously by calling the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).

Director Miranda emphasized that all tips will remain confidential, and rewards may be available for information leading to an arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
