PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD — A man died early Sunday morning after a fire broke out in a two-story duplex in Brentwood, where hoarding conditions complicated firefighters’ efforts to contain the blaze.

Firefighters with the Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department responded to the 3400 block of Webster Street around 12:40 a.m. and found flames coming from the first floor of the home. Upon entering, they discovered the man deceased inside the residence. His identity is being withheld pending an autopsy, officials said.

According to investigators, the duplex was filled with large amounts of stored items, which hindered access for firefighters. Neighbors confirmed the man had lived alone in the home since the 1980s and described him as elderly and reclusive.

No other injuries were reported, and fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
