ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — A 7-year-old boy died Sunday evening after falling from a car window and being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident on Interstate 97, Maryland State Police said.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-97, just north of MD Route 32. According to investigators, the boy was riding in the rear passenger seat of a 2011 Mazda 3 driven by his grandmother when he opened the window and fell out of the vehicle, landing on the roadway.
Moments later, an oncoming 2016-2019 Honda Civic struck the boy and fled the scene. Police said the suspect vehicle likely has damage to the front left wheel well and are actively seeking leads to locate the driver.
