PHILADELPHIA — A 39-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder after a fatal shooting Friday afternoon at a busy intersection in the city’s Frankford neighborhood, police said.
Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department’s 15th District responded to reports of a person with a gun at 5100 Frankford Avenue and Pratt Street at approximately 3:08 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Moneer Farhat inside a crashed vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head.
Farhat was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m., police said.
At the scene, Sherwayne Garrison, of the 1500 block of Dyre Street, approached SEPTA Police officers and identified himself as the shooter, according to authorities. The police Shooting Investigation Group processed the crime scene as investigators worked to gather details.
Garrison was subsequently taken into custody and charged with murder and related offenses, police said. No additional details about the circumstances leading to the shooting were provided.
Philadelphia police continue to investigate the incident.
